Dance organisations Parampara and Nrityabahrti come up with dance festivals heralding the pleasant spring season
In a dedicated attempt to perpetuate and preserve the glory of Indian classical dance forms, city-based dance organisations Parampara – Academy of performing arts and Nrityabharti have come up with national dance festivals starting from February 17 to 21.
The first programme is organised by Parampara – an academy affiliated to Sarfojiraje Bhosle Centre, linked with Kavi Kulaguru Kalidas University, Nagpur – on February 17 at Nehru Foundation Auditorium in Thaltej. Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi exponent Bijal Haria said, “To encourage the young learners to purse Indian dance forms we have organised this event. Dance ballet ARTHASHRINGARA – Adornment of Shastra, based on Kalasa Karana from Nritya Ratna Kosha of kumbha Raja and Kalidas’s Rutusamhara Kavya will be performed by Dr Sanddhya V Pureccha (principal, Bharata College of Fine Arts & Culture, Mumbai) and her disciples at the event.”
The Programme will be inaugurated by Ex-health minister Jaynarayan Vyas. Dr Sudarshan Iyengar, vice chancellor, Gujarat Vidyapith, Padmashri Dr Sunil Kothari , Smita Shastri, Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi exponent, and Aparna Kambli, daughter of legendary lt Nrityacharya Parvatikumarji will be present at the event.
A four-day national dance festival is hosted by Chandan Thakore –the veteran Bharatnatyam dancer and choreographer. Thakore said, “This is the 10th edition of the National Dance Festival initialized with an aim of promoting new experiments and conserving the rich Indian dance culture and tradition. This festival will showcase renowned artistes and international dance troupes performing classical dances.”
The event is to start on February 18 and will conclude on 21. Day 1 will present Chandan Thakore’s artistic group choreographies which will be followed by Bharatnatyam pperfromance by Ganna Smirnova from Ukraine. Day 2 will feature well-known Kathak exponent Rajashree Shirke from Mumbai with her troupe.
Day 3 will present Odissi dance by Sujata Mahoptra and her team. On the concluding day the troupe of Sahrdaya Foundation from Chennai will give Bharatnatyam performance. The venue for the festival is Samutkarsh near Prahladnagar.
