Summer is here but it’s bearable as the temperature is within its normal range of about 37.5 to 38.5 degree Celsius. The mercury has consistently remained a few degrees lower than the last two weeks, compared to the heat wave conditions that prevailed in the second week of March, which had taken the temperatures at various places in Gujarat including Idar, Rajkot, Surat, Vadodara and Ahmedabad to 42degree Celsius and above.
Dr. Kamaljit Ray, director Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), said, “The heat wave conditions have normalised and the state has returned to its temperature zone of 38 degrees C- which is usual for this month. However, the heat wave is again expected to hit the state by the middle of April. We have observed that heat wave generally strikes the state twice in April-May.”
IMD data records that Thursday’s maximum temperature in Ahmedabad touched 37.4 °C and minimum was 24.5 °C. Temperature in the city has remained cooler and breezier compared to Rajkot, which was the hottest city in Gujarat at 39.4 °C. As per IMD records, temperature in Idar was 37.6, Bhuj 37.8 and Deesa 38.2.Temperature at all IMD stations in Gujarat has remained lower than 40 degree C – which shows that summer temperatures are in their usual range and heat wave conditions have completely normalised. However, this respite is soon to get over, warns IMD.
