Chetan Bhagat’s novel will be relaunched with posters of the movie; the film releases today finds Priya Adhyaru-Majithia
“Kai Po Che truly captures the gist of my novel The 3 Mistakes of My Life”, author, Chetan Bhagat said. Having played the role of both writer and script-writer for the movie, Bhagat is now looking forward to reactions from movie-buffs.
His novel, ‘The 3 Mistakes of My Life’ (2008) is being re-launched with this movie and captures the walled-city of Amdavad in most parts. “The film reaches to wider audiences,” Bhagat said, further adding that, “After watching the movie many viewers would want to know more about the book. Hence, we are re-launching a film edition of the novel with posters of Kai Po Che. This movie is truly an authentic representation of the novel.”
The lead actress Amruta Puri, who had not read the novel while she was shooting for the film, liked the story so much that she read the novel after the shooting was over. “Each of my novels has a deep-rooted social message that leads towards change. And I am happy that 3 Mistakes – which is already a popular novel – is reaching a wider network in the form of a movie,” Bhagat said.
Shooting for the movie, 2 States staring Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, which is based on Bhagat’s another novel ‘The Story of My Marriage: 2 States’ is also to start in Ahmedabad next month.
In order to understand reactions of his Amdavid audience for his film, Bhagat will be visiting the city soon. “Ahmedabad is extremely important for me. This state has given me my wife, education and my best stories,” Bhagat said.
An alumnus of Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, Bhagat met his wife, Anusha Suryanarayan, at IIM Ahmedabad. Their love story is his inspiration for his book ‘2 States…’.
Bhagat, who has authored five bestselling novels, including Five Point Someone (2004), One Night @ the Call Centre (2005), The 3 Mistakes of My Life (2008), 2 States (2009) and Revolution 2020: Love, Corruption, Ambition (2011), has inspired many directors to make main stream Hindi movies.
Commenting on his future plans, Bhagat said, “I plan to continue writing more novels and film scripting as I thoroughly enjoy the process of turning my books into movies. Writing novel is my passion and reaching a wider audience using films as a medium is my aim,” he said.
