The 10-day horse fair at Ambod ended with a horse ballet on Sunday. The event was attended by more than 1.5 visitors across the country
And the winner was …Mangalveer – of Marwari Horse society and its rider Gopalsigh who stole the show at Sandstrom, 10- day horse show that concluded with a gala horse pageant and breed show on Sunday.
Other runner ups were Prince, Samrat, Marry, Kesar, Goldie and Pari. Many great riding masters and their skilful horses especially honed for dressage successfully demonstrated through the performance of series of prescribed movements ridden within a wide arena at the fair. The fair ended with 2013 Gujarat Mega Breed Show for Marwari and Kathiawari horses which was held at Ambod near Gandhinagar on Sunday.
Dazzling and swift movements of Marwari, Kathiawari and other breeds offered a terrific spectacle to Amdavadis. On the last day, judges evaluated the horses’ movement on the basis of the standard level of the test and assigned each movement a score from zero to ten – zero being -not executed- and 10 being – excellent.
About 68 horses from Gujarat, Rajasthan and Maharashtra participated in the pageant to vie for the best horse trophy. Virendra Kankariya, president, Equestrian Association, Gujarat and vice president – west zone All India Marwari Horse Society, said, “The show was mindboggling. Horses performed exquisitely. It was a challenge for judges to select a winner and hence we had many winners under various categories.”
Various endurance events were held over 20,40,60,80 kms for Marwari, Kathiawari and Sindhi horses. Teams from Jodhpur, Chhattisgarh police and Equestrian Association Gujarat participated besides about 72 individual riders with their horses. Cash awards of total 3-lakh were distributed among various winners of all categories along with trophies, medals and certificates.
The winners in the Kathiawari category stallion class were private horses of riders Vimal Bhadrecha, and Kishoresinh Jadeja, while in filly class horse belonging to organisation VSAF Stables won. Under colt class, horses of Prithvi Brahmbhatt, and VSAF stables scored the best. In mare class, pets of Udayraj Khachar, Bhupatsinh and VSAF Stables won.
Similarly the winners in the Marwari category were in colt class Agni and Victor of rider Jayesh Pekle, in filly class Chetan of rider Arjunram Devasi and Pankaj of rider Arjunram Devasi scored the highest ranks. In stallion class, Jairaj of Anantsingh Kelva, Shakti of Ashish Amin, Bhagirath of SGVP won. In mare class horses of riders Shailesh Ahir and Bhavesh Chowdhary won.
A team of medicos from the National Research Centre for Equines visited the fair to collect samples of blood to study the stress levels in horses before and after endurance races that took place at the fair.
