Hans Raj Hans, renowned exponent of Sufi music will provide a rousing finale of the nine-day Times Ahmedabad Festival on Sunday. He has specifically promised classics of this genre. “I will perform Sufi songs like Mori laaj rakho..for the Ahmedabadi audience,” he told TOI.
The artist is famous for his songs like Sili sili hawa and Dil toote toote ho gaya. During the festival’s concluding session Hans would bid the music lovers adieu with a memorable gift of classic sufi melodies.
Though Hans does not belong to musical lineage, his incessant love for Sufi Music drove him to purse this genre. And today, He is one of the elite Sufi singers of India with his unique voice quality and singing diction. He is famous for his Punjabi folk, devotional and Sufi music.
Padma Shri-awarded Raj has his own Indipop albums and has worked with renowned artists such as the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan in the movie Kachche Dhaage. He has also shared stage with likes of Sukhwinder Singh Sadhana Sargam in Jogi Aaya. In Bole So Nihaal Hans has accompanied Harbhajan Mann and Sardool Sikandar. His songs Mittar Pyare Nu and Patta Patta with singers Sardool Sikandar and Harbhajan Mann are a few of his popular tunes.
His recent hit songs and albums are Ik Tu Hi Tu Hi from Mausam (2011), Yaara O Yaara (2008), Wanjara (2007) has made him one of the popular playback singers. Poetic Punjabi songs like Ek Kudi Jida Naa Mohabbat written by Shiv Kumar Batalvi are a few of Raj’s popular tunes. Rendition of songs from his first album Chorni as well as his signature lyrics like Haq Allah meri par karado naiya would add a novel variety to the festival which has already presented other music genres like fusion, jazz, indi-pop and funky folk during the previous days.
His super hit lyrics sung with Gurdas Maan are Nach Kudiye, Nachna Aj Nachna, Nachdi Saade Naal and Khidki Noon Khol Baliye – which have rare emotional appeal. Hans is all set to entertain the city’s music lovers with some of his signature tunes like Tu Mane Ya Na Mane, Nit Khair Manga, and Tere Ishq Nachaya. His Chorni, Dil Chori Ho Gaya, Sili Sili Hawa, Pyar Bhare Khat, Mahiya, Sab To Soni – are Sufi lyrics which voice love’s deep anguish.
